Himeji
Just over an hour from Kyoto by shinkansen, Himeji is the 2nd largest city in Hyogo prefecture. It is here that we will visit the castle that has been labelled "The White Heron". A 20 minute walk from the station, Himeji Castle has survived in its original form since its completion in 1609. Sitting atop a hillside with views all around, it is quite an amazing sight anf it is little suprise that it is a national treasure and a UNESCO world heritage site.
